Daniel Jelks SR

Born in a place  called "Rock Springs, Alabama" in the year of 1934.  I went to school in Alabama and Georgia. I played trumpet in the "Rome Georgia High School Band", (Even in High School I wanted to play the Saxophone, but I just played whatever wind instrument I could get at the time.)

 

I married Lula Morgan, who is also from Rome Georgia, when I turned 21 in 1955. It was in the year  of 1957  when I left Georgia, at the age of 22, and moved the family to Buffalo, New York. I was around the age of 30 when my wife sad she liked the sound  of  the saxophone better than the trumpet. Ever since then I’ve been playing the saxophone.

 

I can read some music, but I play mostly by ear.  I played a varity of local clubs, Colored Musicians Club, Pine Grill, Johnny's Ellicott Grill, Twenty Grand Club, Plaid Lock, Little Harlem, 440 Club, Kitty Kat Club, Mandy Club. Throughout the years  I have performed on venues with lots of famous people; like Jacksonville Jimmy Smith, James Brown, BB King, Michael Jackson, King Curtis, Earl Roberson, my sons (DJ Flash-Drummer, Richie Lamar-Writer Keyboardist), Oliver Lee Robin-(Producer) and son-in-law, (Billy Nunn-Master B3 Organist).   Just naming a few of the big stars.

 

I’ve traveled many cities, east to west and north to south, entertaining people with my Saxophone. I’ve made CD’s and DVD’s that you will be able to purchase on my site.

 

My favorite place to live is Las Vegas.  It’s a lot more to my story, but you will have to wait for my book.

 

My thanks to my wife, Lula Morgan Jelks whose love for the saxophone, inspired me to switch from the trumpet to the saxophone, my daughter Sheila Jelks Bass the (Nutritionist), and to my daughter Beverley Jelks Nunn (O.
